Last week at the Roth Capital conference I had a chance to hear VelaTel CEO George Alvarez expelling in detail the strategic "pivot" that Velatel has made to Mobile Virtual Network Operator in Asia with their amazing China Motion acquisition.

I have a very direct conversation with Mr. Alvarez…and one of the news items we will report is VelaTel has asked our sister company NBT Capital Markets to get back to the work of providing shareholder acquisition and retention services to VELA.

TelecomAsia.net is reporting China's ICT ministry could approve applications from several local companies to operate as MVNOs by as early as May, as part of its plan to open the nation's telecom sector to more private investment. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has told Chinese media that it will give the green light as soon as May, according to Shanghai Daily. 

We talked last week about the NEW VelaTel business structure and focus. To me, focus in business means having to say no to good ideas…and rethinking past moves in the context of the business strategy today versus history.

Today’s announcement that VELA has put their Peruvian 4G LTE network Go Movil up for sale is ANOTHER proof point that they have finally figured out that their B2C and B2B MVNO strategy is their future…and negative cash flow operations like Go Mobil is their past.
