Toby's Take - Free at Last, Free at Last

Most of you probably don't know that (as a result of the sale of my previous company ChangeWave Research) I have been under a VERY strict non-compete agreement for the last 36 months.

That agreement ends Oct 1...and for approximately the last TWO years I (and a team of colleagues from the good old days of Phillips Publishing and ChangeWave) have been meticulously planning our return to investment research publishing and paid investment newsletters in particular.

My agreement NOT to compete with the company that acquired ChangeWave gave me a LOT of time to think about how we could revolutionize the investment research business AGAIN...just as we did with the creation of InvestorPlace.com in the 90's and ChangeWave Alliance--the first major crowd-sourced "stock picking as a team sport" expert network.

Both of those start-ups became highly successful online investment intelligence publishing companies...but that was SO a few years ago.

GlyEco's GLYE cornerstone acquisition just got better…a lot better. The seller (the owner/founder of major glycol recycling unit First Circle) has agreed to take $2M LESS cash—i.e. $2M in stock—to close their deal by September 30th…

Make no mistake—NOBODY from New Jersey takes LESS cash and more stock in a deal UNLESS they are 100% convinced the stock in going to worth a LOT more than the cash!

The telecom doomsday dance.

The next time you see a telecom announcement trumpeting an agreement to resell Office 365, short the stock.

It is more likely than not that every telecom provider will wake up within a year to realize that survival depends on their ability to grow multi-billion dollar revenue streams in services that they do not offer today.  The length of time they have to accomplish that will depend on their ability to stop the ice cube on the stove from melting.

This will be a 3 part case for the private market value for VelaTel (VELA).

To say VELA is the worst investment recommendation I have ever made in 20 years of newsletter publishing is to state the obvious. I have made every mistake in the book on this stock…and have paid the 7 figure price in my portfolio.

Right now I am not looking in the rear view mirror…we are looking ahead.

Toby's Take - In IT, Speed is God and Time is The Devil

My answer has always been “because in the annual $3.5 trillion global IT market, BIG means SLOW…and slow doesn’t cut it in the IT world these days.” I am reminded of the old Silicon Valley saying “Speed is God and time is the Devil” when it comes to the major shift to new tech vs. old tech.

Why are start-ups eating OLD Tech's lunch?

Dr. John Faessel, an independent equities research pro for whom we at NBT respect highly, has been on the GlyEco (GLYE) bandwagon since early this year. My version is pretty in-the-weeds about their technology…but I know that NBT subscribers are a LOT more sophisticated than the average “Adventure Capital” investor…so this is my take on where IWEB is in the great PC-to-Cloud transformation food chain.

Here is yet another reason Facebook is the new AOL while Google and newer search engines stand in front of the largest opportunities in the history of revenue in consumer software offerings.
